Sylwester Ostrowski is a saxophonist, composer, festival director, music producer, and bandleader.
Sylwester Ostrowski – a saxophonist, composer, and festival director from Szczecin, Poland – builds cultural connections globally through jazz. As the leader of the Jazz Brigade and director of the Szczecin Jazz Festival, he promotes jazz worldwide while mentoring young talents, guided by his motto: “bop for streets – jazz comes to you.”




From Szczecin, Poland, Sylwester builds cultural connections globally with jazz. He is a rare figure in the jazz world, who has successfully combined the roles of an artist and jazz saxophonist with cultural initiatives, including the creation of the Szczecin Jazz Festival and the establishment of the Akademia Sztuki w Szczecinie (Public Art University in Szczecin).
He has recorded with great American jazz trumpeter Freddie Hendrix and toured alongside outstanding artists and jazz icons such as artists like Erykah Badu, Wynton Marsalis, Bobby Watson, Keyon Harrold and Carlos Sarduy.
Well known for his legendary hospitality toward artists, partners, and guests visiting Szczecin, Sylwester has recently collaborated with Dorrey Lin Lyles (One Voice) and Deborah Brown (Kansas City Here I Come). He also leads the Jazz Brigade (In Our Own Way, We Are The Jazz Brigade), performing and recording alongside great artists such as Freddie Hendrix, Miki Hayama, Essiet Okon Essiet, Darius Brubeck, Albert Bover, Eric Allen, Owen Hart Jr., and Polish rising star Jakub “Mizer” Mizeracki.
Internationally, Sylwester has performed at numerous jazz and world music festivals, as well as in renowned jazz clubs worldwide, including the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City, USA; Yamaha Ginza Hall in Tokyo, Japan; the Safaricom International Jazz Festival in Nairobi, Kenya; Jazz I Am at La Paloma in Barcelona, Spain; the Sicilia Jazz Festival in Palermo, Italy; Musicians Paradise in Amersfoort, the Netherlands; the Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Más in the Canary Islands, Spain; and Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, USA, among others.
Sylwester Ostrowski believes that the future of jazz belongs to the younger generation. He has extensive experience in developing and delivering educational and mentoring programs, including One Voice, Jazz Forum Young Talents, and Szczecin Jazz Young Talents, as well as international initiatives created in partnership with leading global jazz institutions such as the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
He is a board member of the World Jazz Network, an international association of jazz festivals and driving jazz initiatives.
The way he plays and presents jazz is always warmly received by audiences. He has been recognized for his work bringing “Bop to the streets.” His strong motto is bringing jazz back to the people — “jazz comes to you,” as he likes to say.
